Food Safety

How we keep your food safe

Every cook on ChowFlex is verified and compliant with UK food safety law. Here is exactly what we check and how we enforce it.

What every cook must have

🎓

Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate

Verified

Every cook must hold a current Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate before going live. This covers safe food handling, cross-contamination prevention, temperature control, cleaning and disinfection. We verify the certificate is genuine and current.

Required under the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2006

🏛️

Local Council Food Business Registration

Verified

Every cook must register their home kitchen as a food business with their local authority. This is free and takes 28 days to process. Registration allows Environmental Health Officers to inspect the premises. We verify registration has been submitted.

Required under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006

⚠️

Allergen Awareness Training

Verified

Every cook completes allergen awareness training covering all 14 major allergens (Natasha's Law). Cooks must declare every allergen present in each dish. Our platform displays allergen information prominently on every dish page before ordering.

Required under UK Food Information Regulations (Natasha's Law, October 2021)

📋

Hygiene Policy Declaration

Self-declared

Cooks declare they maintain appropriate kitchen hygiene standards including: separation of raw and cooked foods, proper temperature control, no pets in the kitchen during food preparation, and appropriate personal hygiene.

Best practice under FSA guidance

Allergen information

Under Natasha's Law, all 14 major allergens must be declared on every dish. ChowFlex cooks are required to list all allergens present in each dish. You can filter the browse page to exclude any allergens before you see results.

⚠️ If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy: Allergen information on ChowFlex is cook-declared. Cross-contamination can occur in home kitchens. We strongly recommend contacting the cook directly before ordering to discuss your allergy. ChowFlex is not liable for allergic reactions arising from inaccurate allergen declarations by cooks.

Reporting a food safety concern

If you have a food safety concern — suspected food poisoning, allergen mislabelling, or unhygienic packaging — please report it immediately.
