Our Story

Built from a simple truth:
home cooking is the best cooking.

ChowFlex was born from the realisation that the best African and Caribbean food in the UK isn't in restaurants. It's in home kitchens, made by people who learned to cook from their parents and grandparents.

The problem we saw

If you're Nigerian, Ghanaian, Jamaican, or from anywhere across the African or Caribbean diaspora in the UK, you know the frustration. The authentic food you grew up with — smoky jollof rice, proper egusi soup, real jerk chicken — is either impossible to find near you, or the versions available in restaurants are pale imitations of what you remember.

At the same time, talented home cooks across the UK are cooking extraordinary food every day, for family and friends, with no way to reach the customers who would pay well for what they make.

What we built

ChowFlex is a two-sided marketplace that connects these home cooks with the customers who are hungry for their food. We're not a restaurant. We're not a meal kit company. We're a platform that puts real home cooks — verified, compliant, and fairly paid — in front of the customers who need them.

The model is simple: cooks set their delivery days, publish their weekly menu with how many portions they can make, and customers pre-order. No scrambling for same-day orders. No wasted ingredients. Just planned, purposeful cooking — the way home cooks actually work.

ChowFlex Market

We noticed something else: the same people who want to order home-cooked food also struggle to find authentic African and Caribbean ingredients. Crawley, where ChowFlex was founded, has almost no African grocery options. Brighton, Horsham, Gatwick corridor — the same story.

So we built ChowFlex Market: a fresh produce marketplace for yam, plantain, egusi, stockfish, palm oil, and everything else that defines our cooking. At supermarket prices. Delivered to your door. The cooks on our platform buy their ingredients here too — creating a closed loop that keeps quality high and the whole ecosystem self-sustaining.

Our values

We believe home cooks should be treated like professionals. We pay 85% of every order to the cook, weekly, with no hidden fees. We've built a three-tier halal certification system that goes deeper than any other food platform in the UK. We enforce allergen declarations for every dish.

We believe customers deserve to know exactly what they're eating, who cooked it, and where the ingredients came from.

And we believe the African and Caribbean food community in the UK deserves a platform built specifically for them — not a generic delivery app with a "World Food" filter.
